Learn more about your family history in a series of genealogy classes beginning this weekend at North Port Public Library.
The pistol and rifle range at Knight Trail Park will partially reopen to the public beginning Saturday, Oct. 1. The range was closed to the public over the summer during the installation of baffles.
Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources announced the opening of the new Sarasota County Public Library-Venice at10 a.m.Tuesday, Oct. 4.
The Phillippi Farmhouse Market returns Wednesday, Oct. 5, for the eighth season of offering locally grown produce, including USDA-certified organic fruits and vegetables.
The entire family is invited to enjoy a fun-filled day at the annual Fire Prevention Week Open House sponsored by Sarasota County Emergency Services. The open house will be held from10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Fire Station No. 5, 400 N. Beneva Road. Admission and refreshments are free.
It's time to clean out the garage and gather discarded household items, junk and yard waste. Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Osprey/Vamo area from 8 a.m. to noonSaturday, Oct. 8.
Sample ballots for the Nov. 8, 2016 General Election are now available online at www.SarasotaVotes.com.  
The Sarasota County elections office has begun sending vote-by-mail (absentee) ballots for the Nov. 8 General Election to absent stateside military voters and overseas military and civilian voters. Domestic vote-by-mail ballots will be mailed beginning Oct. 4.
Sarasota County Master Gardeners will hold their 11th Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
Early-bird registration is now open for Sarasota County's 11th Annual Sustainable Communities Workshop, to be held Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida Event and Conference Center, 4740 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota.

Good Morning—we are continuing to monitor the movement of Disturbance #36 as it moves across the Atlantic. Here is the latest information we have and forecast tracks. Enjoy your week!





























Disturbance 36 s roughly near 9.3N, 45W. It is moving to the west near 25 mph. There is a 70 percent chance of the system developing into a tropical storm prior to reaching the Windward Islands on Wednesday. There is a 90 percent chance of development upon entering the Caribbean Sea. Tropical storm force winds are likely to occur along and near where the center moves across the Windward Islands. Confidence in the track of Disturbance 36 decreases beyond 5 days.

Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources will host the Fifth Annual Youth Fall Fishing Tournament at 8:30 a.m.Saturday, Sept. 17, at Manasota Beach in Englewood. The event is for children 14 
and younger.
Its time to clean out the garage and gather discarded household items, junk and yard waste. Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Laurel area from 8 a.m. to noon,Saturday, Sept. 17
The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County and Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources are hosting their second annual Free Family 5K Walk/Run event onSaturday, Sept. 24 at Nokomis Beach, 100 Casey Key Road, Nokomis. The race begins promptly at 8 a.m., rain or shine.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources staff will host a volunteer event honoring the 23rd Annual National Public Lands Day from 9 a.m. to noon at Pinecraft Park, 1420 Gilbert Ave., Sarasota.
Early-bird registration is now open for Sarasota County's 11th Annual Sustainable Communities Workshop, to be held Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida Event and Conference Center, 4740 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota.
The award, which was presented by the Florida Sports Foundation, recognizes the unparalleled contributions of Florida's county and municipal parks and recreation departments to sport tourism.

during September.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources staff will host a volunteer event honoring the 23rd Annual National Public Lands Day from 9 a.m. to noon at Pinecraft Park, 1420 Gilbert Ave., Sarasota.
Sarasota County's beach lifeguard operational hours have changed due to the end of summer and the close of the Labor Day weekend.
