Roundabouts

Image
Plans for the expansion of Bee Ridge Road are likely to call for creating roundabouts at several points along Bee Ridge east of I-75. Traffic experts say installing roundabouts results in remarkable reductions in accidents: Don't forget to come to the public meeting set for Thursday, Dec. 8th where you'll have a chance to get a view of the project, and to speak with planners from the county. And don't forget the Lake Sarasota Community Group meeting the same evening at 7 pm. Click to see the entire short video about roundabouts:

Latest Sheriff's Report on LS

From Ted, here's the latest Sheriff's report for our area -- Thanks Ted! The Sept. 2011 Sheriff's Dept Report analysis: Crimes by type: Vandalism - 2 Burglaries - 1 Thefts - 4 Juvenile Disturbance - 0. Five incidents happened between Sept. 5 and 15. The "hottest" day was Thursday, with 3 incidents. Two incidents happened on Tuesdays. and there was one each on Monday and Friday. Six of the seven reported incidents happened between 6 and Midnight, a shift from daylight to dusk. We'll probably want to adjust patrol times accordingly. Brentford Road had two incidents, both vandalism, at 7055 and 7095, four days apart. Hina, Lancaster, Mauna Loa, and Tarawa each had one incident. Unlike June-August, where reported incidents were somewhat concentrated in the east half of Lake Sarasota, the September incidents were scattered throughout the subdivision. Save December 8

Thursday Dec. 8 is the date of our next LSCG General Meeting. But we have also learned it might be the date of a very important meeting with the planning and design team for the Bee Ridge Rd. Improvement project . By December plans for the widening will be about 30% complete, and usually at that point the county invites the public in to get acquainted with the concepts, the plans thus far, and offers various ways in which the residents - i.e., you - can offer your thoughts, ideas, concerns to the folks doing the project. The meeting on Dec. 8 has yet to have a definite place, but the time will probably be from 4:30 to 7. It will be informal, so come after work if need be. This post will update as we get more details.
