October is Disability Awareness Month

October is Disability Awareness Month and Sarasota County Parks and Recreation has a special event planned to highlight the many agencies and services that provide support for Sarasota County residents with disabilities. The Disability Awareness—Health and Recreation Expo, 9 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Oct. 4 at Arlington Park Gymnasium, 2650 Waldemere St., Sarasota will provide information on tai chi programs, wheelchair tennis, respite care, and much more.

Water Moccasin or Water Snake?

At the Lakeview Park Clean-Up, some residents were picking up some branches of a tree when a dangerous Water Moccasin slithered out and dashed into the water. It might be useful to know one when you see it, but the differences between the venomous Florida Water Moccasin (or Cottonmouth) and the wholly harmless Water Snake can be subtle.
