Notes from the September LSCG Meeting: Update

Several items of interest came up. (I was unable to attend, and this is pieced together from those there (thanks!). If anything else of importance is not here, please let me know (lakesarasota @ gmail.com))

Crime is up

UPDATE: Ted provided actual stats from the August crime report, see below:
I got the August '10 Sheriff's Dept. report in time to present it at the meeting. Here it is in summary.

There were 19 incidents reported for the month: 3 vandalism incidents, 6 burglaries, 9 thefts (mostly auto), and one juvenile disturbance. Sixteen reported incidents occurred during two time periods: eight between the 11th and the 19th, and eight between the 23rd and 28th. By day of the week: Monday-2, Tuesday-3, Wednesday-7, Thursday-2, Friday-3, Saturday-1, and Sunday-1. By street: Allen-1, Berkshire-2, Bikini-2, Jarvis-1, Java-1, Lago-1, Lancaster-5, Mauna Loa-1, Palau-2, Samoa-1, Tarawa-1, and Westminster-1.

The Lancaster incidents consisted of four thefts and one burglary. The following addresses were affected: 4062 (theft, 8/19, 7:44 p.m.); 4277 (burglary, 8/24, 1:41 p.m.); 3949 (theft, 8/25, 11:55 a.m.) 4043 (theft, 8/27, 6:47 p.m., and 3955 (theft, 8/28, 2:56 p.m.). With one notable exception (vandalism, 8/13, 3:18 a.m.), the crime incidents are daylight occurrences, reported when someone returning home from an errand or work notices "something wrong." Over half the incidents were reported between 4 and 10 p.m.

Based on this analysis of data, the most likely time a theft or burglary might occur would be a Wednesday during the middle or the last week of the month between 8 a.m and 6 p.m. along Lancaster Drive between the 3900 and the 4300 blocks.

Also:

A resident has reported that several mail boxes have been destroyed around Luzon, and a number of people had solar lights stolen from their yards.

FallFest planned

The Board voted to do the "adopt a family" again this year for Christmas. With only $790.00 in our treasury we decided we really need to have a fund raiser so we could afford that project. It was decided to have a Fallfest on November 6th. Ellie is to talk with Sandy and organize it. Possibly have a fishing contest for kids, Kayak rental, Raffles throughout the day, hamburgers & hot dogs. Renee is making a sign to post on our front entrance bulletin board.

Talk Scheduled for Nov.

A Workshop on Identity Theft has been scheduled for the November 11th meeting.

November Garage Sale

The annual community garage sale is coming up in November - we need to pick a date - Sandy is coordinating. Flyers will need to be done

Medians are our responsibility

Ted asked us to note that the maintenance (not the mowing of grass) of Lake Sarasota's medians is the responsibility of the neighborhood -- including things like the ant infestation and the weeds growing in the mulch around the trees.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM. All ideas and suggestions are needed and welcome!
