County opens water-efficient landscaping wiki

Wiki WorldSarasota County is opening an online website on Monday, July 25, that will enable citizens to revise and make comments on the county's Water-Efficient Landscaping Code. The wiki will be open for revisions and comments until 5 p.m. Aug. 22. It's available online at the Sarasota County website,www.scgov.net, or at the wiki website athttp://wiki.scgov.net. (MORE)
Newtown grocers to offer healthier, fresher foods

Fruits and vegNavigating through the maze of food choices is never easy, and in some Sarasota County communities - including Newtown - access to affordable healthy foods is nearly non-existent. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a 'food desert' exists when there is a lack of affordable healthy foods and mainstream grocery stores. (MORE)
County team participating obesity prevention project

Overweight kidsA team led by Sarasota County's Community Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) was recently named as one of 10 high-performing groups to participate in the federal Healthy Weight Collaborative to address the epidemic of childhood obesity. MORE)
Grand opening of Lime Lake Park set for July 30

Lime LakeSarasota County Parks and Recreation will host a grand opening celebration of Lime Lake Park, 2020 North Lime Ave., Sarasota, at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30. The free event will feature comments from Sarasota County Commissioner Carolyn Mason, as well as officials from Parks and Recreation, the Sarasota County School Board and the North County Community Organization.
