fire service downtown

FIreHatCurrent and former county, city and Fire Department officials will celebrate 100 years of fire service at a noon ceremony Sunday, Sept. 25, at Fire Station 1, 1445 4th St., Sarasota.

Copper pipesOn Sept. 26, Sarasota County and the Sheriff's Office will hold a workshop to discuss proposed changes to a county ordinance regulating the purchase of secondhand goods, precious metals and scrap metal.

Business taxes due Sept. 30

MoneyFormerly known as occupational licences, this tax must be paid to the Sarasota County Tax Collector by
Sept. 30. Existing businesses can pay online. New businesses should contact the Tax Collector at 861-8300, option 3.

Selby Public Library closing
temporarily for remodel
BooksThe next phase of the $1.2 million remodeling of Selby Public Library includes a temporary closing on Saturday, Oct. 1. Selby will reopen at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 3.
SCAT fares to increase Oct. 3
The regular, one-way Sarasota County Area Transit fares on fixed-troute service, including the SCAT trolley, will increase fro 75 cents to $1.25. Here is a complete list of fare increases.
National Night Out comes to Urfer Family Park
Urfer Family ParkSarasota County neighborhoods will join communities nationwide for the 28th annual crime and drug prevention event Oct. 4.The event includes games and activities for the entire family, and is free and open to the public.
It's a Paddle Palooza!

CanoeDragon boat, rowing, kayaks, cayuco and stand-up paddleboard in North Port. The event is free, from 9 a.m. -
5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at Dallas White Park, 5930 Sam Shapos Way. Food, music and fun for the entire family.

Fruitville Library hosts Health and Wellness Fair

JoggingRepresentatives from local healthcare providers, pharmacies and more will be on hand with information and support about everything from medical services to diet and exercise.
