County Updates: Beautification Award, Coastline, Tax Assistance, Great American Cleanup, more

Steven Botelho, Sarasota County's chief financial management officer, was appointed acting assistant county administrator by Sarasota County Administrator Thomas A. Harmer, effective Monday, Feb. 24. 

Keep Sarasota County Beautiful has received the Keep America Beautiful President's Circle Award. The award recognizes exemplary performance made by certified affiliates of the national nonprofit in building and sustaining vibrant communities. 
The Sarasota County Construction and Demolition Recycling Center in Nokomis is expanding operating hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays beginning Feb. 15. Recycling rates are $48 per ton or $16 per cubic yard.
Sarasota County libraries and the American Association of Retired Persons are offering free assistance with the preparation of 2013 tax returns through April 15
Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Siesta Key Beach Ambassadors, offers a four-week series of free community education seminars about county beaches and habitats during March at Siesta Beach Park.
The pool at 2650 Waldemere St. in Sarasota is closed for about six months for renovations.
Join forces with friends and neighbors for the 2014 Great American Cleanup, 8 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 22, at sites throughout Sarasota County. In case of rain, the cleanup will be Saturday, March 29.
