The Community Health Center of North Port and the Health Planning Council of Southwest Florida will host two enrollment events on Monday, Dec. 15 at Selby Library, 1331 First St. in Sarasota and at the Jacaranda Library, 4143 Woodmere Park Blvd. in Venice. 
The Gulf Gate Public Library's temporary location inside Westfield Sarasota Square Mall will be closed beginning 5 p.m. Jan. 3, in preparation for the opening of a new and improved library at 7112 Curtiss Ave., Sarasota, a few weeks later.
Sarasota County Government's popular Civics 101 program begins Jan. 22, offering even more to learn about where you live. 
The county has hired Dennis Murphy as development services manager for its Planning and Development Services department. 
Neighborhood associations, homeowners associations and ad hoc groups of neighbors may apply for the next cycle in grants program.
The Sarasota County Commission on Tuesday, Dec. 2, selected Carolyn Mason, District 1, as chair, and Alan Maio, District 4, as vice chair for 2015. Paul Caragiulo, District 2, will serve as Pro Tem.
From Jan. 7 through March 26Friends of the Legacy Trail volunteers will pedal the surrey and passengers on 30-minute surrey trips Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Sarasota County commissioners have honored 13 elementary school artists whose illustrations appear in the 2015 "Catch the Rain" calendar. More than 1,500 students entered this year's competition to illustrate ways to use landscaping methods that mimic Mother Nature in catching and keeping more of our rainfall to water plants and reduce stormwater runoff. 
Mediation is an informal and voluntary process to resolve disputes before resorting to litigation. It saves filing fees and is free to any person living in the 12th Judicial Circuit. No problem is too small or too large, and locations are available in Arcadia, Bradenton, Sarasota and Venice.
