Local agencies are working together to promote breastfeeding as a vital health activity for nursing mothers and infants and to recognize breastfeeding friendly agencies in honor of National Breastfeeding Month.

Walton Ranch Preserve in North Port and T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve in Venice are temporarily closed due to flooding, Sarasota County staff announced Wednesday, July 29.

A portion of Jackson Road in Venice will be temporarily closed to through traffic after county crews discovered a pipe failure Wednesday.

Residents from Sarasota, Longboat Key, Venice, North Port and the surrounding communities are invited to talk with leaders of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) and state HIV/AIDS program at the High Impact Prevention Town Hall meeting to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at the William L. Little Health & Human Services Center, 2200 Ringling Blvd. (Auditorium), Sarasota.

Sarasota County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service and the Glenridge on Palmer Ranch are teaming up to offer a free storm spotter training class on Friday, Aug. 7.

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County's (DOH-Sarasota) Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost public health services at 13 sites around the county during August.
