As children get caught up in the excitement of Halloween, they can sometimes forget to be careful, leaving them more prone to accidents and injuries. The Sarasota County Fire Department offers tips for keeping kids safe this Halloween.
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office will host a job fair to recruit communications operators (9-1-1) for the Emergency Operations Bureau. The job fair will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Sarasota County Emergency Operations Center, located at 6050 Porter Way, Sarasota.
Sarasota County will hold a public workshop on the proposed Interstate 75 overpass connecting the future Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Cattlemen Road at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Church of Hope, 1560 Wendell Kent Road, Sarasota.
Sarasota County Area Transit announced that free Wi-Fi is now available on all buses and bus routes.
Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent is reminding voters to confirm their polling place locations before election day. There are recent changes in polling locations, including two changes effective for the Nov. 8
General Election.
Sarasota County's Health In Motion staff will provide no-cost health screenings and referrals for general health and wellness during November. A Registered Nurse will help individuals who lack medical insurance find a medical home for ongoing health care through referrals to the Community Health Centers of Sarasota County. 
Join Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources as it celebrates the 100-year anniversary of Phillippi Estate Park with a series of free events the weekend of Nov. 12-13.

Bee Ridge Road Public Hearing: Update

On Wed., Oct. 28, at 1 p.m., the Sarasota County Commission will hold a public hearing concerning plans for Bee Ridge Rd. east of I-75. Engineers will explain plans and probably answer questions, and presumably public comment will be invited. The hearing will be in the Commission chambers on Ringling Blvd. For more background on Bee Ridge projects, click here . Water Moccasin or Water Snake?

At the Lakeview Park Clean-Up, some residents were picking up some branches of a tree when a dangerous Water Moccasin slithered out and dashed into the water. It might be useful to know one when you see it, but the differences between the venomous Florida Water Moccasin (or Cottonmouth) and the wholly harmless Water Snake can be subtle.
