Lots west of Lake S: Comments and documents in court case

Residents of Lake Sarasota - not all, but a few hundred - have received a letter notifying them of a lawsuit. Apparently someone wishes to develop more than 100 lots between the current western boundary of Lake Sarasota and I-75.

Below are comments from NextDoor regarding what it all means:

The letter, as people have pointed out, is confusing and difficult to understand. But here's what I've gathered from reading it: There are a bunch of people who own undeveloped wooded lots in Lake Sarasota abutting Route 75. These landowners (of the wooded lots) want to sell their properties to developers. A "Development Review Committee" has already met (on July 19, 2018) and seemingly approved the development of the wooded lots. BUT...residents of Lake Sarasota had created the "1988 Declaration of Restrictions for Lake Sarasota, the 1995 Amendment to the Declaration of Restrictions for Lake Sarasota, and the 1996 Declaration of Restrictions for Lake Sarasota", which made it illegal for those wooded lots along 75 to be developed. The owners of the wooded lots have seemingly contracted lawyers to try and nullify the Declarations of Restrictions so that the land can be developed. It seems that anyone who received the letter has legal recourse because the decision of whether or not to develop will impact our property values. We will in no way be compensated for how this affects our property values, but they have given us a thirty-day window to complain or hear our grievances. It seems our Lake Sarasota attorney is James C. Turffs and we can have ONE free consultation with him within 30 days. His contact information is (941)-312-1644 or on the web at Jturffslaw@gmail.com. Please feel free to correct me if I have misinterpreted the letter and its contents.

Construction will be awful for those along Jarvis & Molokai , have an impact on ALL of our values and the traffic/flooding will be much worse....the current "flood zone" maps show the land at the end of Jarvis, behind Molokai to be divided into plots...I had assumed the land, that buffer between I75 and our neighborhood, was county land but once talks of development on that property started back in 2018 I had no idea that land was individually owned ....It sounds like the owners want to sell to the developer & are now being challenged ...Who in their right mind would want to live on I75 and Philipi creek! This is definitely not a good for our community
