Mauna Loa Clean-Up Saturday June 24

Reminder: tomorrow - Saturday, June 24, from 7 - 10:00 a.m. there will be a clean-up of the medians on Mauna Loa. We'll be trimming trees, picking up trash, etc., Please join us if you're available. If you have chain saws (gas powered) or other trimming equipment, please bring that with you.

Also, the beautification committee will meet on Tuesday, June 27th at 6:30 p.m. at the pavilion in Lakeview Park. We'll be discussing the repair and painting work of the walls at Westminister and Bee Ridge. Our next regular meeting will be on June 11th and I'll forward you the meeting place at a later date.

On Wed., Oct. 28, at 1 p.m., the Sarasota County Commission will hold a public hearing concerning plans for Bee Ridge Rd. east of I-75. Engineers will explain plans and probably answer questions, and presumably public comment will be invited. The hearing will be in the Commission chambers on Ringling Blvd. For more background on Bee Ridge projects, click here . Water Moccasin or Water Snake?

At the Lakeview Park Clean-Up, some residents were picking up some branches of a tree when a dangerous Water Moccasin slithered out and dashed into the water. It might be useful to know one when you see it, but the differences between the venomous Florida Water Moccasin (or Cottonmouth) and the wholly harmless Water Snake can be subtle.
