Sarasota County Government offices, including libraries, Sarasota County Historical Resources and recreation centers, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday.
On Thanksgiving Day, home cooking fires are likely to occur more than three times the daily average than any other day of the year, so the Sarasota County Fire Department is urging to the community to keep safety in mind during the holidays.
The Board of County Commissioners welcomed Nancy Detert and Michael Moran on Nov. 22.
Sarasota County will host a celebration Nov. 28 for the recently completed Bee Ridge Road Improvements Project, which spanned a 2.6-mile stretch of the roadway between Mauna Loa Boulevard and Iona Road, east of Interstate 75.
The wildly popular Sandy Claws Beach Run returns Saturday, Dec. 10, for its 40th year on Siesta Beach.
The 11th annual Sustainable Communities Workshop - "Paths to a Sustainable Future" - will bring the community together Dec. 1 to discuss and plan future priorities.
Workshops will present the details of the Neighborhood Initiative Grant Program, which provides grants up to $10,000 per neighborhood. 
As part of a major initiative focused on housing affordability, Sarasota County is seeking community input on the topic through a newly launched online survey.
