Barbetta, who ends eight years of service with the county commission. Alan Maio assumes the District 4 seat that Nora Patterson held for the past 16 years. County extends offer to new director of Sarasota County Area Transit The candidate, Rocky A. Burke, of Lexington, Ky., has more than 15 years of leadership and management experience within the public transit industry. He previously served as the general manager of Lextran in Lexington, where he oversaw a program that included 75 fixed bus routes and 49 contracted para-transit buses, more than 200 employees and an operating budget of $21 million. Garage sale a success

Last weekend's Neighborhood Yard Sale was a success, said Ellie Himes, one of the Board members of the Lake Sarasota Community Group who worked to organize the sale and produce a list of LS residences that participated in the sale. Himes estimated at least 200 lists of homes were handed out, most to folks coming in from outside the community. Those who signed on for the $2 donation to be on the list of homes can bring or send it to 7108 Java Drive. Thank you!

ReZoning Approved by the County

A re-zoning long sought by the owners of the Bee Ridge Park of Commerce (BRPOC) was approved Tuesday by the Sarasota County Commission. The approval (changing zoning from PCD -> Commercial Neighborhood) was delayed due to complications of road design as well as concerns from nearby neighborhoods about impacts of the development upon traffic, tranquility, and property values. The owner/developer, the Canadian firm TerraCap, entered into discussions with neighborhood representatives that led to a compromise agreement. A voluntary Declaration or Covenant, it limits the kinds of businesses that can operate in the Park of Commerce, and imposes other constraints upon hours of delivery, lighting, noise and signage. Once signed and recorded, it is legally binding upon the developer. The Commission made the rezoning approval contingent upon the signing and recording of the Declaration.
