Park Clean-Up: Day 2

The clean-up continued with attention to piles of deadwood, weeds and dead vines and branches. We noticed at least two invasive species in various places in the park. The first, Dioscorea bulbifera , is commonly known as the air potato. You can read about it here , and see images of how it can "engulf" healthy trees. The second invasive is the well known Brazilian Pepper . A few pics of vine-encumbered trees have been added - along with a few others from Day 2 - to the photos above .

An important meeting

If you had to make one community group meeting this season, it should be the one on Tuesday, March 13, at 7 p.m. (note new time ) at Sarasota Baptist on Hand Rd. Why? For one thing, this meeting will give everyone a chance to talk about Lakeview Park -- it's a chance to brainstorm, to find out what kinds of things people would like to see there, what we as a neighborhood could do to make it even more beautiful than it already is, more fun, and more safe. Also, we'll be planning the April Picnic - that's Sunday, April 15th, 1 to 4 p.m. -- we're talking about some great ideas for food, games, prizes, animals, learning centers, tours of the park and more. The band - Skyline - is booked, so plan to come, and come on Tuesday to help us plan! A couple of other things: Dawn now has some volunteers for the park clean-up on Sat.-Sun., March 17-18, but will certainly welcome more. Email her if you can spare a few hours. Saturday 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday 1 - 4 p.m. Also, anyone
