Odd parking and running dogs

Thank you to the neighbor and avid runner who posted the comment regarding the cars on sidewalks and unleashed dogs.

This has been a continuous concern in this and many other communities. We have found that the best way to handle this is to first speak directly (in a friendly manner :) to the neighbors regarding their vehicles or dogs. I was pleasantly surprised how easy this was on my own street just to kindly ask my neighbor to move their camper so it was not blocking the sidewalk when my son was first learning to ride his bike. Of course, this doesn't work all the time. In some cases it is necessary to contact the county.

Keep in mind that Lake Sarasota Community Group is not an Association and is not going after neighbors for "violations."

This can only be done on an individual basis and is recommended that we get to know our neighbors first and try to resolve issues in a friendly manner before 'reporting' them.

Unfortunately, I have not had such success in speaking to some of our neighbors about odd parking. Some have gotten quite rude, even in front of my granddaughter. I think that since we are now, sadly, not deed restricted, people assume incorrectly that we do not have code restrictions. How can the neighborhood be educated in this manner?

It's about a new proposed set of high-rise condos on the sliver of wooded land between Lake Sarasota and I-75. The developer will be going to the County with a new plan for 208 (or possibly more) dwelling units on  24.5 acres, to be called West Bridge at Lake Sarasota. Access to the land will solely be possible through roads within Lake Sarasota. West Bridge meeting summary and next steps

  Dear Neighbors, Thanks to everyone who attended the LSCG meeting on 7/27. The information to be distributed is too much for a post or an email. To no one’s surprise, the attendees of the Lake Sarasota Community Group meeting on July 27th unanimously decided to fight the new development proposed by developer Josh Graber and his agents. We are opposed to this type of development, not to the current zoning for single-family dwellings. Sarasota Baptist's planned development: Careless? Indifferent? Dangerous?

Update: On Nov. 28, 2023,  despite the absence of any traffic study. the Board of Sarasota County Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the Sarasota Baptist windfall proposal for 87 unaffordable homes on Hand Road.  Six people from the community offered several reasons that a rational judge would consider to be compelling, but not this Board. This commission reads the Comp Plan not as a set of strategies to prevent poor planning, but rather as a mandate to mindlessly approve growth. From the follow-up story in the Sarasota News Leader : The new homes will increase car trips from 66 to 847 daily on crippled Hand Road.  Commissioner Mark Smith noted Transportation staff had provided a chart in the report on the application showing that the daily number of trips on Hand Road linked to the existing zoning, Open Use Estate, was 66.
