A message from Ed McCrane

Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief

We all were very fortunate to avoid any serious threat from Tropical Storm Fay and we’ve been able to lift the mandatory evacuation order for residents living in mobile homes.

I’m also glad to report that Sarasota County government, county courts, the cities of Sarasota, Venice and North Port, and the town of Longboat Key government offices will re-open Wednesday.

SCAT is resuming services and expects to be running on regular schedules later today.

Sarasota County schools will be re-open Wednesday. Solid waste collections will resume their normal schedule for county residents Wednesday. City residents should contact their municipalities for information on trash pickups.

We had 299 people and 18 pets who stayed in the general population shelters that were open, in addition to 150 people in shelters for people with special needs.

I urge you to remain prepared during this storm season and continue to monitor weather conditions.

For information, contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000 and ask for Emergency Management, or visit www.scgov.net.
