Selby Library to get makeover
A $1.2 million renovation of Selby Public Library, 1331 First St., Sarasota, is set to begin by the end of May and will include a facelift for the inside of the building, more convenient location of computers, a new state-of-the-art Teen Center and installation of an automated check-in system. Memorial Day closings announced
Most Sarasota County government offices, libraries, recreation centers and transit services will be closed Monday, May 30, to observe the national Memorial Day holiday. However, Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. and the Arlington Park Recreation Center will be open from noon-5 p.m.(MORE)

Siesta Key bridge rehabilitation construction decision announced
The Florida Department of Transportation has reached a decision regarding the best time to perform the necessary repairs on the Siesta Key North Bridge project. The project will begin on June 5, 2012 and will be constructed by closing one lane of traffic on the bridge for 120 calendar days from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., excluding the July 4 holiday period (June 29 through the day of July 8) and Labor Day weekend (Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.) All work will halt during these holiday periods due to anticipated heavy traffic historically generated during these timeframes. The project is expected to be complete by Oct. 16, 2012. (MORE)

Public meetings scheduled on SCAT Transit Development Plan
The Sarasota County Transportation Authority has set three meetings for the public to review potential changes to the Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) Transit Development Plan.

Meeting topics could include bus stop improvements, future transit needs and route extensions, SCAT and Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT) routes, the future Cattlemen Road transfer station, the new Sarasota-North Port Express service and the planned Venice-Sarasota Express service. (MORE)

SCAT Summer Student Pass on sale now
The popular Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) Summer Student Pass will be available starting Monday, May 16, at five locations around the county. The $20 pass can be used by youths up to age19 or anyone who has a valid student identification card. The pass allows unlimited ridership on SCAT buses from June 1-Aug. 31, 2011. (MORE)
