Memorial DayCounty schedule set for Memorial Day holiday

Most Sarasota County government offices, libraries, recreation centers and transit services will be closed Monday, May 30, to observe the national Memorial Day holiday. However, Payne Park Tennis Center will be open from 7:30 a.m.- 2 p.m. and the Arlington Park Recreation Center will be open from noon-5 p.m. (MORE)

Siesta BeachSarasota County's Siesta Beach is rated Best in the Country!

Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, "Dr. Beach" is Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University. Since 1991 he has been traveling the United States annually in search of the county's top 10 beaches. Siesta Beach in Sarasota with its pure white quartz sand and warm Gulf of Mexico waters has been ranked 2nd Best for the last two years, until now. (MORE)

Major Kurt HoffmanCounty Commission and County Administrator Jim Ley agree to contract termination

The Sarasota County Commission has agreed to a contract termination agreement with County Administrator Jim Ley. The decision is effective immediately.


The commission also voted to offer the position of interim county administrator to Major Kurt Hoffman of the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. Hoffman will not be a candidate during a search for a new county administrator. (MORE)

Kids Summer Beach runEarly registration offered for 'Kids Summer Beach Runs'
The co-sponsor of the popular "Kids Summer Beach Runs'," which is New Balance Sarasota, 1872 Stickney Point Road, Sarasota, will offer early free registration to the first 100 kids who register for the beach runs at the store, 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8. The one-time $1 registration fee will be paid by New Balance Sarasota for registrations collected at this location only. (MORE)
