Water Line Update

A brief update on the Water Lines. The County asked 68 residents of Lake Sarasota last year if they would accept water lines to County water. The homes are along Jarvis and Lago. We checked on the status of the project:

According to Linda Larsen of the county, the engineering was submitted for approval on June 28th, and there are a few projects in the queue ahead of it. The bids might come in August, with work beginning in November and looking for completion in March 2008.

This is pushed back from an initial estimated July beginning for the work, which was then pushed to September.

Hi..I wanted to see if I could hopefully have a post made about my family's lost dog. She is a chocolate lab / pitt mix. Her name is Chloe. She has been missing since Wed., July 18th after 5:30 P.M. If anyone has seen her please let me know, and we will give a reward. She is a very sweet dog, and she won't go up to anyone as she is scared of most people. She does love other dogs though. Even if you saw her run by, please let me know. Thank you for any help! She has been in our family for 6 years. We love & miss her very much!!!

Jessica, I'll put this in a separate post in hopes greater visibility will help. I also recommend, if you've not done so already, placing a notice at the Paws Park on Hand Rd. People who go to the park are very good about noticing wandering dogs. If you have a picture of Chloe, we can post it - send it to lakesarasota@gmail.com - Good luck!

It's about a new proposed set of high-rise condos on the sliver of wooded land between Lake Sarasota and I-75. The developer will be going to the County with a new plan for 208 (or possibly more) dwelling units on  24.5 acres, to be called West Bridge at Lake Sarasota. Access to the land will solely be possible through roads within Lake Sarasota. West Bridge meeting summary and next steps

  Dear Neighbors, Thanks to everyone who attended the LSCG meeting on 7/27. The information to be distributed is too much for a post or an email. First, an open letter, then more details below. To no one’s surprise, the attendees of the Lake Sarasota Community Group meeting on July 27th unanimously decided to fight the new development proposed by developer Josh Graber and his agents. We are opposed to this type of development, not to the current zoning for single-family dwellings. Sarasota Baptist's planned development: Careless? Indifferent? Dangerous?

Update: On Nov. 28, 2023,  despite the absence of any traffic study. the Board of Sarasota County Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the Sarasota Baptist windfall proposal for 87 unaffordable homes on Hand Road.  Six people from the community offered several reasons that a rational judge would consider to be compelling, but not this Board. This commission reads the Comp Plan not as a set of strategies to prevent poor planning, but rather as a mandate to mindlessly approve growth. From the follow-up story in the Sarasota News Leader : The new homes will increase car trips from 66 to 847 daily on crippled Hand Road.  Commissioner Mark Smith noted Transportation staff had provided a chart in the report on the application showing that the daily number of trips on Hand Road linked to the existing zoning, Open Use Estate, was 66.
