Mobile health services in January
The Sarasota County Health Department's Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost health services at 11 sites around the county during January.  
Mowing schedule Jan. 7-18
The schedule for Sarasota County's roadside mowing and median maintenance program for Jan. 7-18, subject to weather conditions.
Gulf Gate Library prepares for move to Westfield Sarasota Square Mall
The Gulf Gate Library will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, in anticipation of reopening in the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The mall will serve as the library's temporary home while a new Gulf Gate Library is built at the Curtiss Avenue site.
Open houses scheduled on draft Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan
Sarasota County will hold three open-house-style meetings in January on the draft Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. View the draft plan and maps identifying existing facilities and high-priority areas for improvements, and ask questions of county staff. 
SCAT route changes effective Jan. 19
Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will begin its second Express bus service and implement a number of other schedule and route changes on Saturday, Jan. 19. 
Commission approves measures to create local jobs
Sarasota County Commissioners have approved three measures this week to create local jobs and strengthen the county's economic base.
Register now for 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games
Senior athletes from across the state will compete Feb. 19-24 in the 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games. The deadline for registration for adults age 50 and older is Feb. 1.

Newtown/Beverly Terrace community cleanup set for Jan. 26
Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Newtown/Beverly Terrace area from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. 
Clerk issues annual financial report
The Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller has published the Sarasota County Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2012. Find the report at the Clerk's website, www.SarasotaClerk.com,keyword search "CAFR." The report can be downloaded in PDF format or read online in eBook reader format. 
County awards utility contract
The Sarasota County Commission has awarded a $4.3 million contract to Palmetto's Westra Construction Corporation for construction of the Lockwood Ridge interconnect force main project. 
Have you been to the Phillippi Farmhouse Market?
Phillippi Farmhouse Market is Sarasota's only mid-week farmers market, open every Wednesday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. October through May. The goal of the market is to bring fresh, local fruits and vegetables to your table, including USDA certified organic and hydroponically grown produce.
