Commission to participate in Convocation of Governments
FRIDAY: The Sarasota County Commission will join other local governments and the School Board in a Convocation of Governments on Friday, Jan. 18. The meeting will be at 9:15 a.m. at the Sarasota County Technical Institute Conference Center, 4748 Beneva Road, Sarasota. The event will not be broadcast on Sarasota County Access TV.

Holiday closings for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Most Sarasota County government offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of the national holiday that celebrates the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Mowing schedule for Jan. 15-25
The schedule for Sarasota County's roadside mowing and median maintenance program, subject to weather conditions.

SCAT route changes effective Jan. 19
Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) will begin its second Express bus service and implement a number of other schedule and route changes on Saturday, Jan. 19.  

Gulf Gate Library prepares for move to Westfield Sarasota Square Mall
The Gulf Gate Library will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, in anticipation of reopening in the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall on Tuesday, Feb. 19. The mall will serve as the library's temporary home while a new Gulf Gate Library is built at the Curtiss Avenue site.

Mobile health services in January
The Sarasota County Health Department's Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost health services at 11 sites around the county during January.  

Snook Haven restaurant to reopen
Snook Haven, the historic county-owned restaurant on the Myakka River, will reopen next month. The Sarasota County Commission has approved an agreement with the Venice Pier Group to operate the popular landmark, which has been closed for several months.

Register now for the 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games
Senior athletes from across the state will compete Feb. 19-24 in the 24th Annual Gulf Coast Senior Games. The deadline for registration for adults age 50 and older is Feb. 1. 

'Beginners Boot Camp' starts at VCC

Newtown/Beverly Terrace community cleanup set for Jan. 26
Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Newtown/Beverly Terrace area from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. 

Urfer Family Park gets new lighting
Playgrounds at Urfer Family Park are getting new and upgraded energy-efficient safety lighting. The lighting will enable park patrons to enjoy the playgrounds longer during the shorter daylight hours of fall and winter. 

Green Business Partnership welcomes six new members
Sarasota County's Green Business Partnership has added six new members to a community of companies that are demonstrating their commitment to a healthy environment for employees and the community at large.
