SATURDAY: The show, which takes place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.,will feature 75 vendor tables offering unique creations such as handcrafted jewelry, holiday decorations, greeting cards, clothes, quilts and much more at this sold-out event. In addition, there will be a Gingerbread House Decorating Contest along with cookie decorating on-site.
SATURDAY: Members of Local 2546 will fan out across the county with boots in hand for this year's drive on Dec. 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the intersections of Center Road and Jacaranda Boulevard, Fruitville Road and Honore Avenue, and Bee Ridge Road and Beneva Road.
SUNDAY: Entertainment includes music by the North Port Chorale, North Port Woodwind Quintet and Fiddle Crabs String Band; demonstrations of quilting, wood carving and spinning; and dramatic performances by storyteller Katie Adams.
The Sarasota County Commission on Tuesday, Dec. 2, selected Carolyn Mason, District 1, as chair, and Alan Maio, District 4, as vice chair for 2015. Paul Caragiulo, District 2, will serve as Pro Tem.
From Jan. 7 through March 26, Friends of the Legacy Trail volunteers will pedal the surrey and passengers on 30-minute surrey trips Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Local health and school officials have teamed up to "Teach Flu A Lesson" during National Influenza Immunization Awareness Week, Dec. 7-13. No-cost children's flu vaccines will be available at schools across the county Dec. 10-11.
Mediation is an informal and voluntary process to resolve disputes before resorting to litigation. It saves filing fees and is free to any person living in the 12th Judicial Circuit. No problem is too small or too large, and locations are available in Arcadia, Bradenton, Sarasota and Venice.

Please share this with your Lake Sarasota neighbors: On Tuesday July 18, an online Neighborhood Workshop will take place. It's about a new proposed set of high-rise condos on the sliver of wooded land between Lake Sarasota and I-75. The developer will be going to the County with a new plan for 208 (or possibly more) dwelling units on  24.5 acres, to be called West Bridge at Lake Sarasota. Access to the land will solely be possible through roads within Lake Sarasota. Two bridges to cross over the creek (which is part of the Phillippi Creek drainage area) will be constructed.  The image below is taken from  the full proposal . West Bridge meeting summary and next steps

  Dear Neighbors, Thanks to everyone who attended the LSCG meeting on 7/27. The information to be distributed is too much for a post or an email. Please, read the summary of the meeting and the next steps moving forward. If you wish to help or have questions, please email  keithcrusso@gmail.com Thanks. First, an open letter, then more details below. To no one’s surprise, the attendees of the Lake Sarasota Community Group meeting on July 27th unanimously decided to fight the new development proposed by developer Josh Graber and his agents. We are opposed to this type of development, not to the current zoning for single-family dwellings. No number of amenities or concessions offered by the developer in the neighborhood workshop were persuasive to the twenty-thirty people who came or attended via video last night.  The community  wanted me to share this message, too: please, know that this and other developments in the area will affect every one of us, from Molokai to Berkshire, From Jarv

Sarasota Baptist's planned development: Careless? Indifferent? Dangerous?

Update: On Nov. 28, 2023,  despite the absence of any traffic study. the Board of Sarasota County Commissioners voted 4-0 to approve the Sarasota Baptist windfall proposal for 87 unaffordable homes on Hand Road.  Six people from the community offered several reasons that a rational judge would consider to be compelling, but not this Board. This commission reads the Comp Plan not as a set of strategies to prevent poor planning, but rather as a mandate to mindlessly approve growth. From the follow-up story in the Sarasota News Leader : The new homes will increase car trips from 66 to 847 daily on crippled Hand Road.  Commissioner Mark Smith noted Transportation staff had provided a chart in the report on the application showing that the daily number of trips on Hand Road linked to the existing zoning, Open Use Estate, was 66. That figure was attributed to data found in the 11th edition of the Institute of Traffic Engineers (ITE) manual, which the Transportation staff uses as its prima
