Daylight Saving Time
Daylight Saving Time begins this Sun., March 8 at 2 a.m.  Turn your clocks ahead one hour.
Sarasota County will host the annual Sarasota County Adult Clay Court Tennis Championships on March 5-8 at the Payne Park Tennis Center.
Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources will host the annual, sold-out Spring Arts and Crafts Show from
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Englewood Sports Complex, 1300 S. River Road in Englewood. 
A free emergency notification service is available to all residents living in unincorporated Sarasota County, regardless of whether you are a property owner, business owner, or a renter.  
The Sarasota/Manatee Unit of the Florida Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) will present Sarasota County's Director of Homeless Services Wayne Applebee with the '2015 Public Citizen of the Year Award' during their Annual Social Work Month Celebration and Dinner Event on Monday, March 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Libby's Café and Bar Restaurant (Private Room), 1917 S. Osprey Ave. in Sarasota.  
The Board of County Commissioners is asking the public to submit names for the Walton Ranch site (environmental land in east Sarasota County). Ideas must be submitted by 5 p.m. on March 16. If you have any questions, please call Brie Ondercin at 941-861-5000.
Sarasota County is beefing up its Neighborhood Directory, a compilation of homeowners, condominium, civic and other incorporated associations. The directory enables the county to quickly and efficiently notify registered contacts about important public safety announcements, ongoing or upcoming infrastructure improvements, development proposals, stormwater projects, grant opportunities and special events.
The county's Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department, in partnership with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, will be removing invasive vegetation and other nuisance species of shrubs and trees from natural areas of Ted Sperling Park at South Lido in the coming weeks.
Sarasota County's electronics recycling program is available to all residents living in unincorporated areas, all you have to do is pick up the telephone. 
But, as of March 1, 2015, residential televisions and monitors will no longer be included as eligible electronics and residents may observe these items being collected in the curbside garbage trucks.  
Keep Sarasota County Beautiful is seeking volunteers for the 2015 Great American Cleanup, 8 a.m.-noon, Saturday, March 21, at sites throughout Sarasota County. In case of rain, the cleanup will be held on Saturday, March 28.  
Siesta Beach has won the Travelers' Choice Award from TripAdvisor.
The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) that administers green certification standards in Florida has re-certified Sarasota County as a Florida Green Local Government after it successfully met the sustainability standards established in the FGBC Green Local Government five-year re-certification program.
Irish balladeer to perform at county libraries
In celebration of St. Patrick's Day, Irish Balladeer Paul Carroll will perform a series of special concerts at Sarasota County Libraries in March.  
Free tax help available through AARP
Free tax aid is available at locations throughout Sarasota County for quick filing of federal individual income tax returns at AARP tax aid sites and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites. The VITA sites are operated by the United Way Suncoast.
