Paint the town 'READ' April 7 
SATURDAY: Dive into some juicy author panels during Selby Public Library's "Paint the Town READ" event, Saturday, April 7, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Discussion topics will include audiobooks, poetry and classic food writers. 

New online public access email  
Sarasota County's previous public access email location is no longer available. A new public access online site was launched Feb. 1. Find it at www.scgov.net.

County wins 'Library of the Year'  
Selby LibraryThe Florida Library Association has given Sarasota County its 2012 Library of the Year award. The county was lauded for its innovative services, community partnerships and dedication to best practices in strategic planning.

County hosts open house April 19  
County SealLearn about county government programs and services during an open house at the downtown Administration Center. While you're there, take a SCAT bus tour of the Honore Avenue improvement project and new SCAT transfer station on Cattlemen Road. 

National Library Week is April 8-14

Big Truck Day rolls into town
If it's big and has wheels, you'll probably find it at Big Truck Day, April 14. Bring the kids and a camera. They'll get to climb inside cabs, pull the levers, push the pedals and honk the horns of dump trucks, fire trucks, pay loaders, buses and more.

2012 VCC season tickets go on sale
Season tickets for the 2012 Venice Community Center concert series are now on sale at the box office. Reserve your seat now for The Beatlemaniacs, tributes to Neil Diamond and The Eagles, and Abbamania.

Local medical company expands
MicroscopeHealth Management Associates willexpand its regional facility in Sarasota County, preserving 148 local jobs and adding 217 positions over the next two years. Sarasota County approved up to $400,000 in performance-based incentives if the company adds 217 full-time employees with annual wages exceeding the county average.

County's health ranking improves
DoctorThe Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin have released their "2012 County Health Rankings," and Sarasota County ranked third overall among the state's 67 counties.

Mobile health services in April  
The Sarasota County Health Department is offering free and low-cost health services at 14 sites in April. Services include diabetes education and screening, and tests for blood pressure, pregnancy, HIV and tuberculosis.
