Sarasota County government offices close for Labor Day holiday
Sarasota County government offices, including libraries, recreation centers and the History Center will be closed Monday, Sept. 3, for the Labor Day holiday.  
Run with the Mad Hatters Sept. 3
Sarasota County Parks and Recreation will host the Pioneer Days Mad Hatter Kids' Fun Run at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Sept. 3 (Labor Day), on Dearborn Street in Englewood. The event for children age 17 and under will precede the 56th Annual Labor Day parade.
County mowing schedule for Aug. 27 to Sept. 7
Here is the schedule for Sarasota County's roadside mowing and median maintenance program for Aug. 27 to Sept. 7, subject to weather conditions. 
Public meeting for Bee Ridge Road improvements Sept. 6
Come to a public meeting Sept. 6 between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to hear more about the Bee Ridge Road Improvement Project. Review graphics and project plans and discuss the project with design engineers and county staff. 
Register now for new 'Sustainable Floridians' ambassador training
This September, UF/IFAS Sarasota County Extension is launching a new eight-week initiative to cultivate knowledgeable, motivated sustainability ambassadors. Topics include Energy, Land Use and Transportation, Food, Water, Economy, and Leadership.
'Books-to-Action' program empowers readers
The Sarasota County Library System will begin a new program in September designed to take the messages and themes from a popular book and turn them into actions that will benefit the community. "Books-to-Action" begins by selecting and reading a book that has a social issue at its center.
