President endorses rowing bid
President Barack Obama has signed a letter supporting Sarasota County's bid to host the 2017 World Rowing Championships. The letter will be part of the bid package presented by Sarasota County officials to FISA officials this weekend in Switzerland.
SCAT service, route and schedule changes take effect July 13
SATURDAY: The Sarasota County Transportation Authority (SCTA) will implement new services and route and schedule changes for 15 Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT) routes beginning July 13.

Portion of Central Sarasota Parkway closes for sewer main repair
Sarasota County Utilities staff have closed all lanes of Central Sarasota Parkway at Stoneybrook Boulevard, near the entrance of Stoneybrook Golf and Country Club, to replace a failing 18-inch sewer main.
Libraries adjust reserve and hold policy
In an effort to respond to the high demand for new and popular titles, as well as an increase in requests for items to be reserved for pickup, Sarasota County libraries have adjusted the number of days that reserved items will be held.

With local schools scheduled to resume on Aug. 19, public health and school officials remind parents to update children's immunizations.

Sarasota County's Nathan Benderson Park has won yet another planning award -- this time from the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association.
North Cattlemen Road wins 'Best in Construction' award
The recently completed project to extend and improve North Cattlemen Road from Richardson to DeSoto roads will be recognized at the annual convention of the Florida Transportation Builders Association Inc. Aug. 8-11 in Orlando.
Community cleanup at Lake Sarasota
Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Lake Sarasota area from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20. Dumpsters will be provided at two locations for residents.
Construction contracts awarded for Snook Haven, SCAT and ATMS
The Sarasota County Commission Tuesday, July 9, awarded construction contracts for utility improvements to Snook Haven Park, five Sarasota County Area Transit bus stops in Venice and Phase 3 of the Advanced Traffic Management System.
