Public meeting for Bee Ridge Road improvements Sept. 6
TODAY: Come to a public meeting between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to hear more about the Bee Ridge Road Improvement Project. Review graphics and project plans and discuss the project with design engineers and county staff. 
Siesta Beach Access closes Sept. 10 for construction
The Siesta Beach Access 5 parking lot at the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Beach Road will close from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, during construction at The Terrace condominium complex, 5400 Ocean Blvd. 
Laurel community cleanup scheduled for Sept. 15
Sarasota County will hold its annual free community cleanup in the Laurel area from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Dumpsters will be provided by Waste Management and will be available at two locations for refuse from residents.
West Dearborn Street pilot stormwater project begins
Sarasota County has broken ground on the start of a long-awaited community project to provide a regional stormwater facility and water quality treatment for existing and future development in the Englewood Commercial District.
Mobile health services in September
The Sarasota County Health Department's Health In Motion Mobile Medical Unit staff will provide free and low-cost health services at 14 sites around the county during September. 
Lifeguard hours change for county's guarded beaches
Sarasota County's beach lifeguard operationalhours will change on Saturday, Sept. 8, due to the end of summer and the close of the Labor Day weekend. Beginning on Sept. 8, beach lifeguards will be on duty from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily on Sarasota County's guarded beaches.
Local grants available for HIV/AIDS prevention projects
Sarasota County Health and Human Services is currently accepting proposals for community-based HIV/AIDS contracts for services for high-impact prevention (HIP) programs in areas with high incidence of HIV/AIDS. 
County lets the sun shine in
Sarasota County officials will debut the county's newest solar photovoltaic array at the Sarasota County Operations Center in Sarasota, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19. This is the first major solar array powering a county building and represents an important step toward increasing the use of renewable energy in county facilities. 
Residents get more time to obtain birth and death certificates in Venice
The Health Department has expanded hours for the Vital Records (birth and death certificates) office at the Robert L. Anderson Administration Center in Venice. The office is now open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with closure during lunch from 12-12:30 p.m. 
Planning Commission seeks member
The Sarasota County Planning Commission is seeking a new member to fill an unexpired four-year term. This essential citizen board advises the County Commission regarding the Comprehensive Plan and land use applications. Members must be Sarasota County residents for at least two years and are required to file a financial disclosure annually. The deadline for filing an application is October 5, 2012.
